Here is a big one I did with 5160 and jacarandá - I love this wood and it is too bad it is almost all gone by now.

A new knife, at last! This one was based on the famous DH Russel skinner, and so I have chosen this name, also to thank all the Canadian friends who have been supporting my career since the start Keith, Doug, Kris, Daniel, and all the rest).
This knife is the first of this model, made of 1075 steel, and with a 4″ Scandi ground scary sharp blade. The handle is two slabs of freijó wood (a very light and strong wood) I got from an old plowshare hande – in fact, this is the part of the curve of the handle – too bad a large part of it was too damaged to be used into more handles. This wood is at least 70 years old and I loved the antique look it has even after all the shaping and finishing.

I think they work very well and fit a knife like this perfectly as its idea is to pursue simplicity and efficience.

What if we make a more beefed up Simplicity, with a wider and longer blade than usual? Well, I had this idea for a long while but when I made the first knives of this series I did not have the 1075 steel stock in the adequate width for the project. Now that I do, here is the result.

The model 9 has a 5 3/4″ blade with an overall lenght of 10″ and it is about 10″ wider than the other models, differences that you can feel when you use the knife, especially if you are used to the other models. It´s handle shares the same confortable shape used on the models 1 and 2 and, in this case was made of rare pau brasil wood, one of the symbols of my country.

Please tell me how you like it. More pics can be seen here: http://ivancamposknives.wordpress.com/2 … lip-point/

A customer asked me to make a knife similar to the Bear Grill´s model and sent me some very detailed plans. I told him I would prefer to make a different knife, my version of the design, and as he agreed here it is, in 1075 steel and green/black g-10. The brown leather sheath that goes with it is also made by me. It is slightly smaller than my Simplicty models and very practica and confortable to handle. I like the result and although a bit similar to my Simplicity 2, it has an identity al of its own.

I don´t use to forge much although I have had some very good teachers. Sometimes I think I should work more on the forge but for now my forged blades will keep being a minority of my work.

This knife, with a convex 1075 steel blade of about 4 1/2″ is one example of my forged blades. It has been forged in 2009 along with a customer order, then rough ground and heat treated but I never come to finish it until last weekend when I decided to finish grinding and sharpening it and added a darkened sisal rope handle – it has been glued in place so there is no danger of it coming undone and this way it is very secure. This knife is one of the two or three I made with the armadillo logo that you can see on its left face. Very sharp and well balanced, the shiny polished blade ( with some oil drops in these pics)provides a cool contrast with the rough texture of the forged surface.

Haven´t made many big ones lately but here is one with a 10" long flat ground 5160 steel blade and cord wrapped handle. The finish is a "service" simple etch and the kydex sheath follows the same idea.
