Jerry Brouwer is a Dutch knife designer that has also been a regular at the Amsterdam Meets. I think it’s extremely cool to finally be able to share images of his Spyderco collaboration. As has been mentioned before about this design, it does handle like a very nice allround EDC. If you like the Native, Sage and Chaparral designs, you’ll probably appreciate this Brouwer folder, it seems to bridge them all.

Spyderco 2018 Production Prototype – Brian Lai Amalgam
March 6, 2018
I’ve heard that the name Amalgam refers to makers that influenced themes on the design. However, personally, I also see an ‘amalgam’ of Americanized Tanto and drop point. It is not a small folder, but still very thin and very lightweight. Flipping compression locks certainly seem to be a nice combination for Spyderco this year. Do check out Brian’s own thread on his cool design on the Spyderco Forums.

Spyderco 2018 Production Sample – Jonathan McNees
March 6, 2018
The Jonathan McNees design was another Spyderco surprise for me. The extremely small folder echoes small Spyderco collaborations in the past like the toad. It’s a size-class smaller than, say, a Dragonfly. The McNees design, size-wise, is more in the Ladybug range. The ergos were surprisingly good and even after a first-time pick-up I could open and close it one-handed quite easily. A cool design, I like the stippling as well.

Depuis que Sal et Eric Glesser ont inventé le Para 3, tous les autres couteaux moches n'ont pas de sens à part se faire plaisir...
